Background & Challenge
ASME’s digital properties were growing rapidly, but the design process lacked standardization across pages, teams, and tools. Designers were creating similar patterns in isolation, developers were hard-coding UI inconsistently, and there was no single source of truth to align design and implementation.
We needed a scalable, systemized approach to unify design, improve developer efficiency, and future-proof our growing web ecosystem. The goal was to create a component-based design system that is:
Flexible and extensible
Built in Figma with clear naming and usage
Backed by code, with a clear integration model
Easy to maintain and adopt across departments
